ARC
Since school has started I have been working out at the recreation center. It has many positives that include the layout and the variety of games and excerices available. I think the staff does a great job with helping students with the proper technique and workout programs. On the other hand, I feel that some of the equipment is old and could use an upgrade. There are only two bench presses and one squat rack throughout the facility. The treadmills are starting to wear down and the cable machines could use some maintenance. Hopefully the University can address some of these problems with the ARC.

Sports or Health and Fitness?
Becoming a Physical Education Teacher I was thinking of what is the most important part of a Physical Education Program. Sports or Health and Fitness? Teaching the kids the rules and fundamentals of sports is important because of the popularity and vast interest in them across the country. Also, when playing them you incorportate some health and fitness. It can really help future coaches and players in getting a better understanding of a sport. On the other hand, health and fitness is a life long skill that can be helpful to everyone. Which subject should get more attention in the classroom of Physical Education?

Rock Football
The Slippery Rock Football Team travels up to Edinboro this weekend for a PSAC showdown. Edinboro is always a PSAC power and have a record of 2-1 going into Saturday's game. The Rock is an impressive 3-0 and plan to keep their unbeaten streak alive. I am interested to see if the Rock's defense can slow down the potent Fighting Scot passing attack. If so, I plan to see the Rock take the win and storm right through the rest of the PSAC. Go Rock!

Now or Never!
Has anyone heard about what is going on in Ohio? Ohio Legislature recently passed that if you played two years of a varsity sport, cheerleading or band that you are exempt from the PE requirements. This is a big hit to the Physical Education program and educators. Being a former athlete myself, I did not take PE very seriously and have suffered the consequences. I never learned how to eat properly and live a healthy lifestyle. Now that athletics are over, I struggle with working out properly and keeping my weight relatively stable. I feel that this is a challenge for us as future Phys Ed. teachers to find ways to make sure that we stop this trend. We have to find ways to show the people in charge that PE is very important and is improving lives in critical ways. The writing is on the wall so it is now or never!Information Commented from is found at: http://www.physicaleducationupdate.com/peblog/
